IMG_4611 When I asked Duda if he would be willing to sit with me and tell me a little bit about himself, his immediate response was, “why?”  I explained that CrossFitters had expressed interest in knowing a little more about its uber-elite athletes. He gently explained that since English was his third language (Latvian and Russian taking the lead then Spanish and German) he wasn’t familiar with the term “uber.” Since it’s been some time I’d needed my Latvian and completely lost my Russian after the Cold War, he graciously compromised and we proceeded in my first (and only) language.  It seems as though I did not fully understand what an uber-elite athlete was until I spent a little time with one.
